Woman trampled to death by elephant in Keonjhar

Keonjhar:  An elderly woman was trampled to death by a tusker at Guhal Chatua village under Sadar range in Keonjhar district, Thursday.

Sukramani Munda (55) along with six others of Guhal Chatua village had gone to the nearby jungle to collect ‘Giliri flower’ (a seasonal flower used as food) and leaves. While they were passing through the foliage, they came face to face with the tusker. While her mates managed to flee, Sukramani was caught by the jumbo who flung her to the ground before trampling her to death.

On being informed, forest department and police officials reached the spot. The villagers expressed concern over the ever-increasing cases of man-elephant conflicts.

When contacted, ranger SK Pradhan said, “There is no tension at all. The family has been adequately compensated and the movement of the elephant is being closely monitored.
