Woman ultra surrenders in Rayagada

Rayagada, Oct 9: Sarada Shabar alias Shukumari (38),a woman ultra Thursday surrendered before the district police here.
The woman cadre had joined CPI (Maoists) in 2000 but later joined Banshadhara division under the leadership of Maoist leader Sabyasachi Panda in 2012, superintendent of police K Shiva Subramani told the media at the district police headquarters.
While Shukumari has a 303 rifle with her, she was involved in the attack on Chandrapur police station May 21, 2010, the police said. Besides, police also found her involvement in the attack on an IRB camp May 20 that year and in blowing up of a mobile tower. A case was registered against her at Chandrapur police station May 27. The above information was retrieved from Lalit Beusika, a Maoist sympathiser when ultras held a meeting the same day, police said.
That apart, other cases in which Shukumari was involved are an attack on Nayan Dibaka October 3, 2011, Deba Gagaranga murder case May 23, 2012, Madhav Shabar murder case under Padmapur police limits October 29, 2000 and bombing near Dhepaguda ME School under Gudari police limits October 10, 2007.
Not happy with the Maoist life style, the woman surrendered before the police, the SP said. Besides, she was sick and not capable of roaming around the forest after security forces intensified combing, Subramani added.
According to police, Shukumari first left the party and returned to her village at Padaguda under Padmapur police limits.
 Later, she went to Bangalore and worked there for three years. However, she made up her mind and surrendered before the police after returning from Bangalore.
Her husband Prahllad Shabar was also a follower of Sabyasachi but died accidently after he was hit by a bullet of his associate, officials said. CRPF commandant Manoj Sharma and senior police officials were present at the press meet.
