Koraput: A woman Maoist, carrying a reward of Rs 4 lakh on her head, surrendered before the deputy inspector general (DIG), south western range, here Sunday.
Puala Achama alias Laxmi (27) was an area commander of the Orissa-Andhra Pradesh border committee and Nagabali division of the banned outfit, DIG S Saini said at a press meet.
Hailing from Bhenkabadi under Kurupam police limits in Vizianagaram district in Andhra Pradesh, Laxmi joined the Red rebels at the age of 12 and was posted as third CRC under Nagabali division since 2002.
She was involved in various Maoist activities from 2005 to 2012 in Narayanpatna area. She had received special training in the use of 303 rifles.
Laxmi was involved in the landmine explosion in Kurlepadu, the landmine explosion during SOG and DVF combing operation at Etabalasa forest, a gun battle with police May 5, 2010 at Samna forest in Narayanpatna and firing at police personnel at Talapaniki in Pottangi November 1, 2013.
Being disillusioned by the Maoist ideology, she decided to join the mainstream. She surrendered with many explosives and other equipment before the DIG.
