Bangiriposi: The driver of the ambulance that ran out of diesel on its way to hospital and resulted in the death of a tribal pregnant woman and her unborn foetus in Mayurbhanj district has been suspended.
Acting on the direction of the Collector, the district Health Officer has suspended Harihara Nayak, the driver, informed medical officer, Bangiriposi Community Health Centre (CHC), Laxmipriya Pradhan, adding that the investigation into the matter is still going on.
The incident of Tulasi Munda and her unborn foetus being killed, allegedly due to the ambulance running out of diesel on its way to PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada, has become a serious cause of concern across the state.
Mayurbhanj MP Biseswar Tudu and district BJP president Krushnachandra Mohapatra Sunday visited the house of Chiittaranjan Munda, the deceased’s husband, at Hanada village under Bangiriposi police limits to express their sympathy to the grieved family. Tudu demanded the government bear the education cost of the deceased’s two years old son until he comes of age.
Notably, Tulasi, wife of Chittaranjan Munda, complained of labour pain at about 11pm Friday. He got her admitted at the Bangiriposi community health centre (CHC). There the doctors advised him to take her to PRM Medical College and Hospital in Baripada.
On the way, the ambulance in which they along with an Anganwadi worker were travelling ran out of fuel at Kathashirshi, after travelling 15 kilometres. The Anganwadi worker then called up another ambulance. However, the ambulance took an hour to reach the spot and upon her arrival, the doctors at PRM Medical College and Hospital announced her and her unborn baby received dead.
