Woman’s body recovered from pond, family alleges murder

Tirtol: Police Thursday recovered a woman’s body from a pond near her house at Banito village under this police limits in Jagatsinghpur district.

The deceased has been identified as Chinmayee, wife of Raj Kishore Behera. Chinmayee’s family members suspect it to be a case of preplanned murder. Her paternal uncle has lodged a complaint with Tirtol police in this context.

According to the complaint, Chinmayee, daughter of late Birakishore Das of Salampur village of Biritola panchayat under Tirtol police limits had married Raj Kishore, son of Ramchandra Behera in Vedic tradition February 10. Household items worth Rs 15 lakh were given to the groom’s family apart from Rs 1 lakh in cash as dowry at the time of marriage.

Chinmayee’s in-laws, however, were allegedly pressurising her to bring even more.

Thursday morning, Chinmayee’s family members were told that she had gone missing. Thereafter, her body was found floating in the pond following which her family members approached the cops.

After getting the complaint, a police team reached the spot and started an investigation. “We are looking at the incident from various angles including of murder as alleged by her family members. Postmortem report will throw more light on the case,” said an officer who is part of the investigating team.
