Koraput/Jharigaon: Two women in Koraput and Nabarangpur districts delivered still-born babies on road sides here as they did not get ambulance service on time.
Subarna Gadaba, wife of Shyam Gadaba, was rushed to Mathalput community health centre after she developed labour pain Friday morning. However, there were no doctors to attend to the woman at the CHC. As her condition turned critical, a woman health worker advised Shyam to shift her to the district headquarters hospital.
Finding no other option, her husband hired a car to rush her to the hospital. However, her pain aggravated on the road near Dumuriput. Her husband took her to a roadside, where she delivered a still-born baby.
Alerted by some unidentified sources, chief district medical officer Laxmidhar Kabi sent an ambulance to the place to bring the woman to the hospital to provide her post delivery treatment.
However, the couple rejected the service and hired another vehicle to return home.
In the other incident, Gomati Gouda, wife of Banasingh Gouda of Gomioda village under Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district, experienced labour pain Friday. Failing to avail ambulance service, Banasingh was taking her on his bicycle to a hospital.
Gomati’s pain exacerbated and she was unable to sit on the cycle. At that place also, Banasingh contacted 102 service (ambulance) and waited for a long time to avail it. However, the vehicle did not turn up. The woman delivered a still-born baby on the road side.
She was admitted to Jharigaon community health centre and discharged after treatment. PNN
