Bhadrak: A group of women Thursday ransacked an SUV which carried liquor boxes at Karanapali in this district.
After receiving a tip-off that a Bolero carrying liquor was heading from Bhadrak to Dhamra, the women intercepted the vehicle.
When the liquor traders had an argument with the women, the latter ransacked the vehicle before destroying the liquor bottles packed in boxes.
“Despite our several requests to the district administration and excise officials, nothing has been done so far to check the rampant trade of illegal liquor in the locality. Finding no other way, we have taken such a step,” said the agitators.
However, on being informed, a police team reached the spot and pacified the agitators that liquor trade will be stopped in the locality after an investigation.
The vehicle has been seized.
