Bhubaneswar: On the occasion World Environment Day, an e-waste sculpture of Ramayana villain Raavan was installed at Jaydev Vihar by Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and International Finance Corporation (IFC), part of World Bank Group, here Tuesday.
Unveiling the sculpture, BMC Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena in his address said, “The beautiful piece of art made from e-waste will certainly create awareness among citizens on the evils of e-waste and its environmental impact.”
He informed the media that the BMC was planning to install more such structures. He said the city has put in place a mechanism to recycle and process e-waste materials scientifically.
Designed and built by artist Pinaki Ranjan Mohanty, the Raavan sculpture has CRT computer monitors as its 10 heads. Moreover, different components of a computer such as motherboards, keyboards and integrated circuits among others were also used in the sculpture.
The installation is part of Clean E-Bhubaneswar Project, an awareness campaign which aims to ensure that the city’s e-waste is collected and recycled in an eco-friendly manner.
