Bhubaneswar, June 14: Creative inputs will help publications in print survive the influx of other forms of content, facilitated by technology. Writers who attended a function organised by a city-based magazine Tuesday were of this view. They called to young writers to come up with more creative ways to cater to the interests of readers.
Leading writers such as Bibhuti Patnaik told Orissa POST that budding writers must gather experiences from life and through experience.
“Writing and reading are interconnected. Writers have to read hundreds of books to ignite the fire of creativity in them and they have to be good observers of life. Experience often improves creativity of writers and bring originality to their writing,” Patnaik said.
Patnaik also appreciated blogging and other forms of creative writing available online.
“Writing has no limits even when the medium may change with time. I appreciate new forms of writing such as blogs. But, the benefit of print is that it will remain for long. Your work will remain your signature forever and so writers are immortal,” Patnaik said.
Children’s writer Jitendra Narayan Dash, known as Dash Benhur, said new writers should try to bring informative and interesting content into their works.
“Writing is a reflection of the society. So we should always try to bring updated scientific information and ongoing issues to literature to make writing more interesting,” he said.
The writer also disagreed with the opinion that cartoons and the visual media had reduced the reading habit among youngsters.
“If you analyze any cartoon character you can identify the innovation behind it. So when writer brings such an innovative platform to writing the young readers would love it,” Dash said.
Leading think-tanks at function also spoke about the need for more value-oriented
literature.
“Crime thrillers and detective novels are almost like addictions at certain age. But there is a need to introduce value-oriented works for building a model society,” writer Devraj Samantray opined.
Another writer Hemanta Kumar Chhotray also batted for simplicity and orientation towards values in literature. “The mother tongue is the best medium for communication and there are numerous works in Oriya literature,” the writer asserted.
