Bhubaneswar, August 28: St. Xavier’s Khandagiri and DPS Kalinga registered resounding victories in their respective matches of the Inter-School MCL Cup football tournament at the Unit-VI Ground here Friday.
In the first match, St. Xaviers blanked BJB English Medium School 3-0. Nikhil opened the account as early as the eighth minute of the match and the team maintained the solitary lead till the lemon break.
After the change of ends, Xavier’s played more aggressively and netted two more goals. Debashis Das doubled the lead in the 47th minute. Ashis scored two minutes after to finish the rout.
In the second match, DPS Kalinga rode on a hat-trick by Aditya Pradhan to thrash Xavier’s International School 5-0. Aditya scored in the 23rd, 35th and 39th minutes. Dhyanendra Bhanjdeo (eighth minute) and Rishab Parekh (42nd minute) were the other scorers.
Two selected
Pramod Bhagat and Nurul Hussain of Orissa have been selected in the 22- member Indian team for the Para Badminton World Championship in England September 8-13. Both of them impressed the selectors in the trial camp at Bangalore to book their berth in the Indian team. Nurul expressed pleasure over their selection into the national team. “I am practicing hard and will try my best to perform well in the mega event,” Pramod stated.
