Yes, you read it right! There is a sea which lies in the border of Israel and Jordan and considered to be at the lowest altitude on the earth.
Name of the sea is ‘Dead Sea’. It has one of the world’s saltiest water — 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes environment tough in which plants and animals cannot flourish.
The Dead Sea is landlocked and in the lowest valley on earth. All the minerals of the surrounding countryside get washed into one side, which in turn gets baked by the sun. This concentrates the salt so much so that the Dead Sea becomes several times as salty as the ocean. This is why people don’t drown in this sea.
It salty water, a little body displaces a lot of mass, and most of the body stays out of the water so, it’s hard to drown a person when most part of their body is floating on top of water.
It’s a popular tourist destination. In fact, tourists are encouraged to swim in it because it has health benefits.
