Mathili: At a time when people of remote areas in Malkangiri district mostly relied on quacks for their health issues, the dedication of a group of young doctors to serve the patients has started drawing tribals towards the government health centres.
A few days back Dr Omkar Hota was in the news for carrying a patient on a cot in an inaccessible region of Chitrakonda block and making sure the patient gets proper health care. He was felicitated by the Chief Minister for his commitment.
Dr Bhimeswar Nayak of Mathili health centre is a fresh addition to the list of dedicated young physicians. Locals appreciated Dr Nayak for conducting an emergency operation of a pregnant woman successfully. As it was carried out for the first time in Mathili community health centre (CHC).
According to reports, Laxmi (21), wife of Sukra Madkami of Barubeda village under this block was admitted to the CHC Wednesday after she experienced labour pain. However, the doctors found the woman and her unborn child in a critical state. While normal delivery was not possible in that condition, the doctors didn’t have enough time to shift the patient to any other hospital.
Meanwhile, Dr Nayak, who had recently joined the gynaecology department, came forward to bring out the baby through a Caesarean Section. Dr Rajesh Behera and a nurse assisted Dr Nayak and the operation was carried out successfully. Both the mother and newborn were doing fine.
Earlier, no woman had ever delivered a baby through Caesarean Section in the CHC. In the absence of specialist doctors, patients are often referred to the district headquarters hospital at Malkangiri risking their lives.
Expressing satisfaction over the successful surgery, medical officer in-charge Dr Pradosh Panda said the joining of the new doctor has improved the health service in the hospital, adding, such problems won’t arise in future. PNN
