Youth hacks father-in-law to death

Boudh: A 72-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death by his son-in-law over a petty family dispute at Sarasara village under Sadar police limits in Boudh district Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Ghundu Barik (72), father-in-law of the accused Pankaj Sethi (42).

According to reports, an exchange of words took place between Barik and Pankaj Sethi this morning over shifting of harvested paddy to safe place in view of the possible rainfall due to cyclonic storm ‘Phethai’ over southwest Bay of Bengal.

Things took an ugly turn after Pankaj attacked the elderly man with an axe. In a fit of rage, he hacked Barik with an axe leading to his father-in-law’s death on the spot.

Though the accused tried to flee the spot after the incident, locals chased and nabbed him. They later handed him over to police.

Cops have seized the body for post-mortem and started investigation into the matter. Worth mentioning, Pankaj was staying at Barik’s house for the last 20 years.
