Youth hangs self during video call with girlfriend

Paradip: In a shocking incident, a youth committed suicide during a live video call with his girlfriend over unknown reasons, in the port city here late Sunday night.

The incident was reported from Madhuban Colony in Paradip. The deceased was identified as Sidharth Majhi (23), a Plus III 2nd year student.

Although the cause of death is yet to be ascertained, police suspected that the youth committed suicide over some misunderstanding with his girlfriend. It was learnt that Sidharth took the extreme step following a heated argument with his girlfriend during the video call.

Sources said, apart from pursing degree from Paradip College, Sidharth was also working as an agent of Sahara India. As usual, he called up his girlfriend and the duo was having a video chat late in the night.

Due to some reason, they broke into an altercation following which Sidharth threatened to end his life. Initially, the girl did not pay attention to him and hanged the phone. However, when Sidharth called her once again and seemed serious, the girl called one of his friends and requested him to rush to his house while she herself tried to pacify him through the video call.

However, by the time he reached home, Sidharth already had hanged himself from a ceiling fan with a bed sheet. The boy immediately rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him brought dead.

Police reached the spot and sent the body for autopsy. A case of unnatural death was registered and a probe was launched.
