Hinjilicut: Police Tuesday arrested a youth on charges of attempting to rape a minor and subsequently circulating the video he had recorded during the heinous act.
Acting on a complaint by the victim’s parents, police arrested the youth and seized a mobile phone from his possession. A case was registered and the accused produced in Special POCSO court, IIC Prasant Kumar Sahu said.
According to sources, the incident occurred October 15 while the girl was on her way to her aunt’s house. Finding the girl alone, the accused gagged the girl and took her to a house where he tried to rape here. He recorded the molestation.
However, the girl managed to escape to her house. Since then, the family was silent for fear of public stigma. However, the youth circulated the video among his friends that soon went viral in the village after which they were forced to lodge a complaint with the police.
