Jamankira: Police Monday arrested a youth on charges of deceiving a minor girl after maintaining physical relationship and impregnating her at a village under this police limits in Sambalpur district.
As per the complaint, the accused (25) made an acquaintance with the minor victim in 2013. He lured her into physical intimacy on the false promise of marriage. Since then he was raping the girl for the last five years.
Nine months back, the girl’s family members came to know that the girl was pregnant after she complained of stomach ache.
Later, they approached the village head and sarpanch in this connection following which a village meeting was convened where it was decided that the youth would marry the girl.
Later, the girl was admitted to Burla-based VSS Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) September 13 where she delivered a stillborn baby.
Since then, the accused and his family members are not allowing her to the house. Her ordeal did not end there. The accused is threatening the girl and his family members and is trying to marry another girl.
Left with no option, the girl with the help of some villagers lodged a complaint with the local police.
A case has been registered and a probe is on. We have arrested the accused, police said.
