Sambalpur: The body of a youth was recovered from an open field at Silapathar village near Hirakud in Sambalpur district Friday morning.
A preliminary police investigation revealed that the assailants had slit the youth’s throat and dumped the body in the field, 1 km away from his house.
The deceased was Ram Luha (23) of Larapanka Harijanpada under Hirakud police limits.
According to locals, Luha had gone out of the house over some work. Family members grew apprehensive after he did not return home till late at night. Later, his body was recovered from the field.
Police sent the body for post-mortem. A case of murder was registered and a probe has been ordered.
Altogether three youths have been killed in Sambalpur and Hirakud area during the Sital Sasthi period. Of these, a youth Biswajit Nayak of Sonepur was hacked to death and bludgeoned with a stone by a gang. In another incident, a youth was found murdered and dumped near the Gangadhar Meher College in Sambalpur. Police arrested seven persons.
