Digapahandi: A 32-year-old man was allegedly hacked to death following a dispute between two neighbouring families in Podamari village of Ganjam district Tuesday.
According to sources, the incident took place at around 11 pm Monday in Dhimira Sahi under Sanakhemundi block. The victim, identified as Sudarshan Behera, was initially taken to the Digapahandi Community Health Centre in critical condition.
He was later shifted to the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Brahmapur, where he died during treatment early Tuesday, according to police.
Police detained four people, including a father and his two sons and another youth from Podamari’s Bazar Sahi, in connection with the incident. They are being questioned as part of the investigation.
A scientific team examined the crime scene in the presence of police and collected blood-stained soil as part of the evidence-gathering process.
According to the sources, the violence followed a long-standing dispute between Sanju Behera, wife of deceased Vijay Behera, and their neighbour R. Hari Patra’s family. A verbal altercation between members of the two families late Monday reportedly escalated into violence.
Police said the investigation is underway to establish the sequence of events and determine the exact role of those detained.
