Keonjhar: In a shocking incident, a youth was shot dead with an arrow following a dispute over cattle grazing in a farmland at Kodakala under Bansapal block in Keonjhar district, Friday. The deceased was identified as Nila Giri (28). Police have arrested the accused, Chasa Dehuri. He was produced in a court here and remanded to judicial custody.
Sources said, Nila and some other villagers were grazing cattle in a nearby forest Thursday afternoon. Some cattle trespassed on to the land of Dehury and started eating black gram plants. This led to a huge argument between Dehury and the cattle grazers.
A visibly infuriated Dehury picked up an axe and attacked the cattle grazers. They ran for their life as Dehury chased them. Suddenly Dehury dropped the axe and picked up bows and arrows and shot at the fleeing group. One of the arrows hit Nila on the stomach injuring him severely. A profusely bleeding Nila breathed his last on the spot.
The others informed the villagers about the incident and then to the local police at Nayakote.
Nayakaote police arrested the accused. SDPO PJ Toppo said the body of the deceased has been sent for post-mortem.
