Bahanaga: A youth died and a woman was critically injured after a truck hit the bike they were travelling on at Chittapada diversion on NH-16 near Khantapada under this block in Balasore district Monday morning.
Sources said, Manas Mallick (18), son of Umesh Chandra Mallick of Bhaluka village was driving the motorcycle and Kabita (35), wife of neighbour Karunakar Mallick, was riding pillion. They were heading towards Khantapada market.
It was when they were crossing the road near Chittapada diversion a loaded truck hit them from behind. Manas was flung under the wheels of the truck and crushed to death.
Locals rescued the injured Kabita and took her to the Khantapada community health centre (CHC). She was later shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Balasore.
Police have seized the truck and launched an investigation.
