Youth kills girlfriend’s brother after she ditches him, held

Berhampur: Police Friday arrested a youth on charges of hacking his lover’s brother over failed love affair at Brahmanipali area in Ganjam district.

The accused has been identified as Lingaraj Sethi.

According to sources, Lingaraj was in love with a girl from Gurunthi. However, the girl turned down his proposal.

Enraged by the rejection, Lingaraj hatched a plan to take revenge. As per plan, he kidnapped the younger brother of the girl identified as Viku Sethi (13). He took Viku to an isolated place and killed him by slitting his throat. He later dumped the boy’s body inside a mango orchard near the village, informed sources.

Family members searched for the boy and later lodged a missing complaint with the local police station. After a few days, Viku’s body was recovered from the mango orchard.

After investigation, police establised the involvement of Lingaraj. Since the accused had gone into hiding after the incident, police could not question him. Police received a tip off on Lingaraj’s arrival in the village and immediately arrested him. The accused later pleaded guilty.

“Our uncle’s family resides in Gurunthi and I fell in love with a girl of the village since I used to stay there often. But after she rejected my proposal I killed her brother,” said accused Lingaraj.

“The accused had taken the boy from Gurunthi to Chhatrapur on December 6 and later he killed him and dumped his body inside the forest,” said Berhampur ASP, Santanu Das.
