Lamtaput: A youth went missing while another was rescued after the boat they were travelling in capsized near Durla ghat in cut-off area of Kolab reservoir under this block in Koraput district Sunday.
The missing youth has been identified as Guru Hantala, son of Sanu Hantala of Chitapari-1 village under Balimela block in Malkangiri district. The rescued person has been identified as Gopi Andala of Durla village.
Gopi had come to Durla village under Lamtaput block to inform his relatives and villagers about the death of a person in his village. He was returning home in a fishing boat with his uncle Gopi Hantala when the boat capsized in the middle of the river.
Meanwhile, Padman Kirmani, a Class VII student who was travelling in another boat to admit her ailing mother in a hospital saw Gopi screaming for help and rescued him by jumping into the river. Later, when he looked for Guru he had already gone missing.
As per reports, Guru had come to Gopi’s house in Durla village and the duo was returning to Malkangiri in the boat when the mishap took place.
On being informed, an ODRAF team from Koraput and Nandapur police reached the spot and launched a rescue operation.
