Youth rapes, impregnates mentally challenged, held

Kendrapada: Police have arrested a 22-year-old youth for allegedly raping and impregnating a mentally challenged girl in Kendrapara Sadar police station area. Police sources Thursday said the accused Manas Ranjan Samal was arrested Wednesday after the father of the victim lodged a complaint with the police. “Acting on the FIR, police registered a case against the accused u/s 376 and 506 of IPC and arrested the accused youth,” said Kendrapada Sadar police station IIC Saroj Kumar Sahu. A medical check-up of the victim revealed the girl was five months pregnant, police sources stated. The accused was produced in a local court Wednesday and remanded to jail custody after his bail plea was rejected, the IIC added.
