Youth ‘rapes’ woman on pretext of marriage

Rourkela, June 9: A 30-year-old woman Tuesday met the superintendent of police seeking justice as she was allegedly raped by a youth inside a hotel room here on the pretext of marriage.
The police didn’t take any action against the accused Purushottam Kabi of Panposh area even after registering a case under relevant sections of IPC June 6, the woman alleged.
The police let him go as he is affiliated to a political party, she added.
Meanwhile, the accused managed to marry another girl June 7 and the reception would be held June 10, the woman said to the SP and demanded immediate arrest of the youth.
According to the complaint, Kabi, a resident of Mani Colony of Panposh was known to the woman for a long time.
They were friendly till Kabi suddenly proposed for marriage with the woman. However, she was reluctant as she was married but had differences with her husband, the woman told in her complaint to the SP.
In a bid to get physical with the woman at any cost, Kabi invited her to attend a programme June 1. He later took her to a hotel and raped at night.
Later, he threatened her for life if she disclosed the matter before any one. The woman lodged a complaint with Sector-4 Woman police station June 5.
