Berhampur: A youth was stabbed to death by a fellow villager over existing enmity at Harijan Sahi under Patrapur block in Ganjam district late Tuesday night.
After the incident, the assailant Surat Nimei walked into the local station and confessed to the crime. The deceased was Rajat Nayak.
According to locals, a rift prevailed between Nimei and Nayak. In an act of revenge, Nimei was hatching a plan to eliminate Nayak.
The accused spotted Nayak sitting alone outside his house at night and attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. He stabbed him and fled the scene.
A while later, he reported to the police station and surrendered with the weapon used in the murder.
Police noted that the accused had earlier been jailed for an attempt he made to kill the same youth and his father over some dispute.
A police team reached the village to take the statements of the locals.
