Baripada: A family dispute turned tragic as a 19-year-old youth allegedly strangled his mother to death at Barajpur village under Baripada Sadar police station in Mayurbhanj district Thursday night, police said. The accused has been arrested. The deceased was identified as Srimati Singh and the accused Kuinia Singh.
Police said Srimati was a widow and had four sons and two daughters. Her two daughters are married. Srimati and her four sons had been working in Chennai and had recently returned to their native village. An argument broke out between Srimati and Kuinia at their home late Thursday night over an unspecified issue.
Police said Kuinia allegedly got enraged during the altercation and strangled his mother. The incident came to light after villagers informed the police. Baripada Sadar SDPO Prabhat Mallik and a police team reached the spot and registered a case.
