Soro: A youth was left battling for life after an unidentified miscreant chopped off his genital after he tried to intervene in a quarrel between two families and solve the matter amicably Tuesday.
The bizarre incident was reported from Adibasi Sahi under Talakurunia panchayat of Balasore district Tuesday night.
He has been identified as Ajit Kisku (22). Fellow villagers rescued him and rushed him to Gopalpur community health centre (CHC) in a critical condition. After preliminary treatment, he was shifted to Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH).
According to reports, Ajit, who had gone to a nearby market over some reason happened to came cross the quarrel between two families over some issue.
The two families were seen yelling at each other and attacking with sharp-edged weapons. In bid to solve the matter amicably, Ajit went into the crowd and pushed away the attackers from each other.
Meanwhile, an unidentified man first stabbed on his back and cut his private part while Ajit was busy mediating in the quarrel.
After being informed, police reached the spot and started an investigation. While it was suspected that Ajit was attacked by one of the attackers, rumours did round that a person having a previous enmity with Ajit, taking advantage of the situation attacked him and chopped of his genitals.
Acting on the complaint of the victim, police registered a case of attempt to murder and detained a few youths for interrogation.
