Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police tightened security measures in the capital city ahead of the 71st Independence Day. The police have installed check posts at every entry point of the city and are inspecting the vehicles during night.
As per a direction of Commissioner of Police Yogesh Bahadur Khurania, IICs are thoroughly monitoring the night blocking.
Similarly, the police have kept a strict vigil on the hotels around the capital. The hotels have been directed to submit the guest list to local police station every day, Deputy Commissioner of Police Satyabrata Bhoi informed the media.
The commissionerate police will deploy 25 platoons of police and more than 200 police personnel during the Independence Day parade at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg and Lower PMG. A total of 50 CCTV cameras have been installed to keep an eye on every activity, added the DCP.
The police have installed a temporary control room at the MG Marg. This apart, a bomb disposal squad and a quick reaction team (QRT) will be deployed at the site. Senior police officers examined the security arrangements in the area.
Notably, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will unfurl the Tricolour at the Mahatma Gandhi Marg on the occasion. A total of 52 troops will take part in the Independence Day March including the Orissa Police, the fire brigade and the Air Force. Besides, a police platoon of Telangana will participate in the march past.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened in left-wing extremism affected regions of the state in the wake of encounter between the security forces and the Maoists in Gandhamardan hills. An audio tape released by the ultras said the celebrations of Independence Day have denigrated it.
