Cuttack: As many as 94 examinees across the state were caught indulging in malpractices on the first day of the annual High School Certificate (HSC) examinations on Tuesday, said sources in the Board of Secondary Education (BSE) here.
Members of the BSE special squads caught these examinees for malpractices while taking examination for first language Oriya. “The board will take action against these errant examinees as per its HSC exam conduct rules,” said a BSE official.
In a related development, invigilators at Mahatab High School near Pallahara in Angul district identified six fake examinees when they tried to take HSC examination through correspondence mode. “The examination centre superintendent handed over the six fake examinees to the police,” said BSE examination controller Nihar Ranjan Mohanty.
In another development, as many as 12 students of Manikeswar High School in Kalahandi district could not take the examination as their names were not found in the list of examinees. Sources said these students had not filled forms for the board examination. “We could not trace any information regarding these 12 students when they contacted our control room. They might have failed to fill the forms within the stipulated date. They have been advised to fill the forms for the upcoming HSC supplementary examinations,” said a BSE official.
School and Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra on Tuesday visited Khannagar High School in the city here to observe the annual examination. BSE president Sushant Kumar Das and Cuttack district education officer Niranjan Behera briefed the S&ME minister regarding the examination process.
The minister later visited a central control room for HSC examination at the BSE headquarters here. He enquired about the examination proceedings by telephoning collectors of several districts, including Bhadrak and Dhenkanal.
“The annual HSC examinations are being carried out in a smooth and peaceful manner across the state,” the minister told media persons outside the BSE office.
