Bhubaneswar: Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of CrPC was promulgated at the Utkal University’s Vani Vihar campus here Sunday after violence erupted in connection with student union polls.
Three students were injured in poll-related violence on the campus after which the prohibitory orders were imposed. Later, miscreants hurled low-intensity bombs near the university ladies hostel No. 5 and 6 in the afternoon leading to tension on the campus despite presence of elaborate security arrangements.
The bombs were hurled at the women’s hostel after two groups clashed over students’ union elections scheduled for September 23. Police suspected that the incident is a fallout of an attack on a student by his rival groups near university main gate in the afternoon. Another bomb was also hurled near the office of vice chancellor.
The injured students were identified as Aditya Satpathy of Integrated MBA, Ajit Kar of Philosohy, and Deepak Sharma of English department.
According to sources, the clashes are the sequel to an incident which occurred Saturday evening near the boys hostel.
