New Delhi: Indian national football team head coach Stephen Constantine has said that that the upcoming tri-series against Mauritius and St Kitts to be played August 19-24 in Mumbai will come in handy for the team ahead of their crucial AFC Asian Cup Qualifying match against Macau, September 5.
“The two matches would immensely benefit our quest to maintain an all-win record in the Asian Cup Qualifiers,” Constantine said Saturday.
Meanwhile Constantine emphasised on the fitness levels of the players who are coming back after a long break. “Qualification to the 2019 Asian Cup is our top priority. The boys need to work hard to attain the fitness levels which are required for an international match. The more matches they play together it will help them understand each other better,” Constantine pointed out.
When Constantine took over as coach for the second stint, India were 171 in FIFA rankings. They have moved up to 97th courtesy winning 13 of their last 15 international matches. India currently are heading Group A of the Asian qualifiers with wins over Myanmar and Kyrgyzstan Republic.
