Bhubaneswar, June 11: Orissa eves had a disappointing day in office as the girls’ team lost their quarterfinal match to Gujurat by three points in the 26th Sub-Junior National Kho-kho Championships while the women’s team also lost their game against Karnataka by two points in the Federation Cup at the KIIT University Ground here, Saturday.
In the boys’ category – Maharashtra, Karnataka, Kolhapur and Jharkhand secured semifinal berths of the sub-junior Championships beating Andhra Pradesh (one point), West Bengal (eight points), Kerala (one point) and Telengana (one point) respectively in their quarterfinal games. Maharashtra will meet Karnataka while Jharkhand face Kolhapur in the semifinals, Sunday. In the girls’ category – Delhi, Gujarat, Karnataka and Maharashtra sailed into the semifinals after defeating Andhra Pradesh (nine points), Orissa, Tamil Nadu (nine points) and Kerala (eight points) respectively. Maharashtra will meet Delhi while Gujarat will face Karnataka in the semifinals.
Team leaves
A 15-member Orissa women’s team left from the City Saturday to participate in the Regional Women’s Rugby 10 Tournament to be played at Kolkata, starting June 12. The squad: Hiramani Soren, Chandmuni Tudu, Jyosthna Rani Nayak, Sasmita Moharana, Ayushi Das, Subha Laxmi Barik, Puja Senapati, Pinkina Parida, Kabita Kasturi Padihari, Poonam Singh, Gelha Jena, Rojalin Sethi, Mausumi Malik, Madhabilata Senapati, Poonam Naik; Coach and manager: Dhiren Kumar Rout.
Football tourneys
All India Football Federation (AIFF) and Football Association of Orissa (FAO) will jointly organise the U-19 National Junior Girls’ Football Championship at Cuttack, starting July 1. The FAO Inter-District Senior Sahani Cup football tournament will be played in Sambalpur, starting June 25.
