Kendrapara: Avoiding all the grandeur & glitter associated with a marriage ceremony, a groom from Narayanpur village in Kendrapara district skipped the band, baaja and baraat and walked on foot for 5 kilometres for his marriage.
The unique procession was taken from the groom Amitabh Chaudhary’s village Narayanpur to the house of the bride Pratibha Jena in Kendrapara town.
Despite having a strong financial background, Chaudhary avoided a luxurios wedding and chanted ‘vedic mantras’ & ‘shlokas’ while Telingi instrument was played during the marriage procession.
Several people applauded the noble thought of Chaudhary. Good wishes poured in from several quarters for the newly-wed couple.
“I’m a stern believer of old Vedic Hindu rituals that have been long forgotten by the modern generation. My only aim was to bring back the old Vedic rituals in marriages which will set a new example for the society. People waste a lot of money these days for marriages. It not only causes traffic and noise pollution but also a matter of show off for some people,” Chaudhary said.
Chaudhary’s in-laws including the bride lauded his unique initiative.
“I am very happy about my husband’s decision to carry out such a procession. No one has ever done such a thing before. With the chants of the vedas, it felt very pure,” the bride said.
Creating awareness on environment was also another objective of the marriage where all the guests were given saplings to plant.
