Sambalpur, Nov 28: People of Dekulaba under Bheden police limits in Bargarh district staged a demonstration outside the office of the revenue divisional commissioner, north range, (RDC) in Sambalpur Saturday alleging that efforts are being made to suppress the killing of Makhun Bag.
Notably, Bag was tortured to death in police custody of Bheden police station July 18. The IIC and several other police officials involved in it had dumped the body of Bag in Ulunda Metakani forest in Subarnapur district.
However, people were given impression that Bag was missing.
His skeleton was found in the forest months after his body was dumped in the forest.
After an investigation, six police officials have been arrested and are now lodged in jail while one is absconding.
Meanwhile, DNA test of his skeleton and blood samples of his family members has been confirmed.
The family of the victim alleged that since several top police officials are also involved in the incident, efforts are being made to suppress the matter.
Over a hundred people led by Pradip Kumar Behera, general secretary of Utkal Yadab Mahasabha, staged a demonstration demanding a CBI probe into the matter so that other people involved in it will be known.
Agitating people demanded Rs 20 lakh compensation for the bereaved family. They have also demanded transfer of Bargarh SP and DSP.
The Mahasabha threatened to intensify the agitation and the state assembly will be gheraoed if their demands are not met.
Contacted, Bargarh SP Ashish Kumar Singh denied the allegation that the matter is being suppressed.
