Badasahi: Police arrested a caretaker of a private mess here in Balasore district for allegedly thrashing an inmate — a student of Class VI — black and blue, Monday.
Sources said, an Adarsha Vidyalaya was established at Badasahi two years back. As the construction of the school hostel is still underway, parents from far-flung areas keep their children at the private mess.
Debabrata Dwibedy, the caretaker of the mess, beat up the inmate over some reason. He was kicked and slammed, and also made to be on his knee. Though the student pleaded with Debabrata to let him go, the latter was in no mood to pay heed to his pleadings.
Thereafter, Debabrata threatened him with more punishment if he ever disclosed about the beating to his family.
But, as bad luck would have it, the student’s father, Buddhibas Tudu, visited the mess on the same day to give a sweater to his son. On seeing his son’s condition, he was speechless for some time and the next moment he rushed him to a private hospital in Baripada. While his left hand and leg were badly hurt, he received severe blows on his head. Blood was also found dripping from the right ear. Following doctor’s advice, Buddhibas got his son’s head scanned. The student is now under treatment.
Acting on the complaint filed by Buddhibas, police arrested Debabrata.
