Bhubaneswar: Orissa karatekas performed splendidly to win 11 gold medals on the opening day of the VIIIth All India Open Karate Championships at the Utkal Karate School here Friday.
In the U-6 girls’ kata event Sanvi Nayak of Orissa won gold medals, while Sanhita bagged the yellow metal in the U-7 female kata event. Sthitipragyan Parida emerged champion in the U-7 male kata pool I event and Harsada Kumar took the top honours in the U-7 male kata pool II event.
Biswajit Samal clinched the title in the U-12 male kata pool I event, while Asit Rout clinched the gold medal in the U-12 male kata pool III event. Dhruva Dora emerged victorious in the U-9 male kata pool II event and Subhranshu Roy bagged the gold medal in the U-9 male kata pool I event.
Digbijayee Barik, Chandaka Yuvraj and Adesh Saman emerged champions in the U-9 female kata, U-8 male kata pool I and U-8 male kata pool II events respectively.
Pokhariput hold KFC
Pokhariput Sporting played out an exciting 1-1 draw against Khandagiri Football Club (KFC) in a match of the 14th Gati Krushna Memorial (Division-B) Football League here Friday.
Jayanta Kumar Behera gave KFC the lead in the seventh minute. However their joy was short-lived Jajun Anand Basir equalised for Pokhariput Sporting in the 24th minute.
Tourney called off
The (AIFF) has cancelled the Sub-Junior National Football Championships for Girls at Imphal because of the flood situation in the North-East. The tournament was scheduled to start September 6.
“As a result of the development the ongoing preparatory camp of Orissa state sub-junior girls’ football team, which started August 17 has been terminated,” FAO stated in a press release Friday.
