Malkangiri: Panic gripped Siadimal village under Sadar block in this district Tuesday following the death of three children from an unknown disease in the past four days.
A medical team was sent to the area to check the spread of the illness, according to a report. The kids, before their death, had started vomiting and become unconscious, the villagers said. While one child had died September 11, three more succumbed to such condition between September 30 and October 3, it is learnt.
Four-month-old Indu Madkami died September 11 while one-month-old Lovley Sodi lost her life September 30. Three-month-old Ganga Madkami and another three-month-old Unga Madkami died October 2 and 3 respectively.
Realising the gravity of the situation, chief district medical officer (CDMO) in-charge Dr Amarendra Mohanty and local MLA Manas Madkami visited the affected village Tuesday and took stock of the situation. They found two others children suffering from similar conditions and the victims were admitted to the district headquarters hospital. The MLA came to the hospital Wednesday and enquired after the health condition of the kids with the doctors.
Meanwhile, the medical team collected the blood samples of other children in the village and distributed some medicines among them after examining their condition.
“Efforts are on to keep the situation under control by offering best possible treatment to the affected children,” CDMO in-charge Mohanty said.
Meanwhile, the villagers led by the MLA, launched a cleanliness drive to prevent vector-borne diseases. PNN
