Chandragiri: A youth was killed and three others were seriously injured after they were attacked by a swarm of bees while they had gone for picnic to the Mankadadian Waterfalls under R. Udayagiri block in Gajapati district Sunday evening. Police recovered the body of the youth from the waterfall Monday morning.
The deceased was Sanju Mohapatra of Biramekhpur village under K. Nuagaon police limits in Ganjam district while the three injured youths identified as Ananta Moharana, Kanha Moharana and Sushant Pradhan have been discharged after treatment at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Chandragiri.
According to police, seven youths of Biramekhpur village had been to Mankadadian waterfalls for a picnic Sunday. They were there till 7 pm. There, the youths were taking a round of the area when a swarm of bees attacked them. While three youths managed to escape the attack, the four others ran helter-skelter to save themselves.
In a bid to save himself, Sanju jumped into the waterfall. But the bees did not spare him.
After getting information, R. Udaygiri police rushed to the spot and admitted the three youths to Chandragiri CHC. Later, Monday morning, cops and fire fighting personnel recovered Sanju’s body from the waterfall.
