BHUBANESWAR: An evening of marvelous poetry recitation was observed at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in a first ever poetry slam Izhar-E-Kavi here Wednesday.
The poetry slam was organised by KIIT School of Law. Students of the university made the first ever slam competition a memorable one with a string of scintillating performances.
The open mic event was organised with a purpose to provide a platform for talented people to showcase their talent. The participants presented their writings in hindi as well as English. Due to the sincere and skilful performances of the youngsters, the show evoked a rousing reception.
A total of 15 students were shortlisted to present poetry before the August House. The poems were based on various themes ranging from emotional to observational. Slam poetry is a splendid platform for youngsters to come up and express themselves on stage. On a brief interaction with Orissa Post, Convenor of the program Aditya Agarwal said, “We wanted people to come up on stage and express themselves and cultivate the culture of slam poetry within our college.”
Results were announced after the event. It was Nikita Mehra, a student of KIIT School of Law, whose emotional poem on her grandfather won the hearts of the Judges as well as the audience. She won the award for best poem of the competition.
