Bhubaneswar, Oct 13: With the student’s union elections fast approaching the customary ‘Why I stand for’ meeting will be held Tuesday at RD Women’s University and BJB Autonomous College. Orissa POST asks the candidates what they stand for and what change would they like to bring about on their campuses if elected.
RD Women’s University
Truptimayee Behera, President Candidate (NSUI): I have a deep bond with the students of my university. I will be very happy if I am able to help them with all my effort and solve their basic problems by whatever means available to me. I know very well what is going on inside the university and I want to solve all the problems. I want to see Rama Devi University on a par with premier universities not only in the state but also in the country at large.
Anisha Subuddhi, General Secretary Candidate (BCJD): I want to work for people, which is why I am in politics. At this age student union election is the best platform for me to extend my help and support to my friends. This is the very first election after our institution got the university tag. Being a student I know there are numerous problems in our university such as inadequate rooms in the hostels, and the ill-equipped library among other. I want to solve these problems once I get elected.
Priyanka Khuntia, General Secretary Candidate (NSUI): I believe I have leadership quality and the requisite confidence to tackle the problems faced by students. The students of the university love me and I love them. Despite being declared the first women’s university in the state, our institution is not able to attend the desired level of excellence due to administrative apathy. My main focus after winning the seat will be to work towards restoring the lost glory of the institution.
Megha Kanungo, President Candidate (BCJD): I want the overall development of our institute. We are a university now but we lack many facilities such as hostel, drinking water and sanitation. The infrastructure of our institute is also poor compared to other universities in the state. I was the dramatic secretary earlier and I hope I have served the students well. I have the capability to bring change.
BJB Autonomous College
Lagnajeet Patra, President Candidate: We are the students, for the students and of the students. I know how to help my people. I am contesting this election to help the students as well as my college. Our college has a great name in the state. I want it to maintain that. I want to work to take it to an even higher level by creating an atmosphere on the campus that is conducive to development.
Aditya Jha, President Candidate: Since the past three years of my academic career in this college I have been engaged with different kinds of welfare initiatives works and I want to continue to work in the same way. I hope my bond with the students of the institution will strengthen with time. I will raise the issue of building a statue of Buxi Jagabandhu Bidyadhar in the art block. I will also try to bring WI-FI facility to our campus.
