Purushottampur: In a horrific incident, a 10-year-old girl was left battling for life after being raped and battered by a youth at Bhabandh village in Ganjam district Friday.
The accused youth was identified as Kalia Dash (23), son of Nila Dash of the village. The incident led to an outpouring of rage in the area as locals nabbed the accused and thrashed him black and blue.
Upon learning of the incident, police rushed to the village and took Kalia into custody. A case was registered and further investigation was launched, police said.
Police said Kalia’s wife Manisha and the victim girl were acquaintances. Thursday night, Manisha asked the girl to spend the night at her place as Kalia said he would be staying out till late. As the families knew each other, the victim’s parents allowed the victim to stay the night with Manisha.
However, Kalia returned home in the middle of the night. Finding his wife asleep, he raped the girl inflicting grievous injuries on her. Later, he sent the victim back to her house after warning her that he would kill her if she told anyone what happened.
The girl who was profusely bleeding reached her house and fell unconscious near her mother. Her mother tried to wake her up in the morning but in vain. After regaining consciousness, she told her family members what happened.
Locals ransacked Kalia’s house and thrashed him after coming to know of the incident. Tension prevailed in the village until police reached and brought the situation under control. Police rescued the girl and admitted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. PNN
