100 mini stadiums to come up by August

Bhubaneswar: The state sports and youth affairs department will prepare a blueprint for the creation of facilities for organising national and international sports in the state and will also construct 100 mini stadiums by August.
These decisions were taken at a meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at the secretariat with the sports minister, secretary and officials of the sports department Thursday.
The Chief Minister asked sports department officials to create state-of-the-art facility in the field of football and infrastructure for organisation of other sports.
During the meeting the Chief Minister also directed officials to create model sports hostels to facilitate sportspersons of the state.
Patnaik, who reviewed the construction of mini stadiums in villages and urban areas, asked officials to ensure construction of at least 100 such stadiums by August. The state government has chalked out plans to create around 41 mini stadiums in urban areas and 159 in rural areas and the 100 to be constructed by August will be part of these.
Officials said mini stadiums will also be created in five municipal corporation areas of the state.
A decision was also taken under which the panchayati raj department will develop playgrounds in schools from now onwards.
