post news network, Bhubaneswar, May 21: Around 11 people from different sectors were felicitated with ‘Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhavana Award-2015’ by Rajiv Gandhi Forum of Orissa on the 24th death anniversary of the former Prime Minister. The event was held at the IDCOL auditorium in the city, Thursday.
The recipients were given citations and trophies for their outstanding contributions in various fields. Binapani Jaysingh was awarded the best volunteer award for dedicating herself to social activities. “I love to serve underprivileged people. I have formed an NGO recently named ‘Saishob’, which works to provide better facilities to deprived children. I have worked with many NGOs where I was involved in various social activities,” said Binapani.
Guruji Fakhir Das Maharaja was felicitated for his contribution in the field of the yoga education. “Yoga has become a vital part in our day-to-day life. Starting from children to elders, now many people are paying more interest to yoga for their good health and peace of mind. Therefore, I started teaching yoga techniques so that the interested people can get benefit from it,” said Fakir.
Arabind Prasad Bal was given award for best fiber network transmission maintenance work in the telecom sector, while Dharanidhar Nayak was felicitated as the best lawyer for the year. Sonali Mohanty was given the award of the best Odissi dancer.
A seminar on ‘Contribution of Rajiv Gandhi towards development of IT sector in India’ was also held during the event, which aimed at commemorating the services rendered by the former Prime Minister.
The programme kicked off with a devotional song performed by a bunch of young girls. Speaking about the programme, general secretary of the outfit, Satyabrata Patra said, “I believe these awards will encourage them to continue with their good work. All the candidates have been doing incredible work in their fields; we feel privileged to honour them with these awards.”
