Malkangiri/Mathili: As many as 11 Maoists supporters including two women Tuesday surrendered before the police at Mathili police station in Malkangiri district. BSF officials were also present at the time of the surrender.
Of the 11 sympathisers, three are militia members while the rest are members of Chetana Jana Natya Mandali, police said.
The surrendered members belong to Kerngjaba and Kashlamunda
villages of Kartanpalli and Salim panchayats in the district, according to police.
Commandant Sunil Kumar Mishra of the 85th battalion of BSF, assistant commandant GS Gill, deputy commandant RN Bhati, Mathili IIC Pramod Kumar Mallik and inspector Anush Kumar were present at the occassion.
Cadres are becoming increasingly fed up of Maoist activities and want to return their families, the surrendered supporters said.
The surrendered Maoists would be provided assistance according to the rehabilitation policy instituted by the government, IIC Mallik told mediapersons. PNN
