Bhubaneswar: About 110 out of 120 absentee doctors would soon face disciplinary action as they have failed to comply with the show-cause notice issued by the state government, which sought explanation from them for their unauthorised and prolonged absence from duty.
According to health and family welfare department sources, the process for disciplinary action will begin very soon.
While serving notices on these 120 absentee doctors November 8, the state government had also asked them to join within 15 days from the date of publication of the notice.
The doctors are ‘willfully’ and ‘unauthorisedly’ absent prior to 2014.
The government which had issued notice had claimed that though attempts were made to ascertain their addresses to communicate with them, their whereabouts could not be known as they have not intimated their addresses either to their immediate authorities or to the director of health services or other official agencies.
It had also warned them of disciplinary action as deemed fit as per the rules of Orissa Civil Services-CC&A Rules 1962, if they fail to comply with the notice within the set deadline.
However, health department sources said only 10 doctors have so far responded to the notices.
“The government may dismiss 110 doctors who have failed to comply with the notice,” an official said.
Notably, the state government had dismissed 408 doctors in November 2015 for willful, unauthorised and prolonged absence. Consequently, 363 doctors have been posted in October this year.
Health department officials have also said that the Orissa Public Service Commission (OPSC) has initiated recruitment process for filling up additional 808 doctor posts.
