12-hr bandh hits life in Rayagda

Muniguda: Normal life at Ambadala under Muniguda block of Rayagada district was crippled Friday following a dawn-to-dusk bandh called to highlight shortage of doctors at the primary health centre (PHC) here.

Angered by the poor health-care, locals called the 12-hour bandh to draw attention to the doctors’ crunch at the PHC. As part of the bandh, schools, colleges and other educational institutions remained shut.

Shops and other business establishments also downed their shutters to avoid unwanted trouble. The locals alleged their demand for appointment of a doctor fell on deaf ears.

The bandh supporters held up traffic on the State Highway. Hundreds of heavy vehicles including goods-laden trailer trucks were stranded on either side of the road during the protests.

The locals have been demanding immediate filling up of a doctor vacancy at Ambadala PHC.
