Cuttack, Dec 3: Twelve teams (three from each group) qualified for the FAO Super League stage as the preliminary encounters ended Thursday. The sides who qualified for the Super League are: Rising Star Club, SAI-STC, Radha Gobinda Club, Bidanasi Club, Rising Student Club, Orissa Police (Group X) and Sunrise Club, Radharaman Club, Chand Club, Sports Hostel, Jaydurga Club and Independent Club (Group Y). Matches of the Super League will start Friday.
In the last league match played Thursday, Independent Club registered an emphatic 3-0 victory over Young Utkal Club. Foreign recruit W Robba opened the account for Independent in the 25th minute while the other goals were scored by Sk Juber (55th) and Basant Sahu (81st).
Friday’s matches: Radharaman vs Sports Hostel (1pm); SAI-STC vs Rising Student (3pm).
Orissa dominate
Orissa boys’ and girls’ teams dominated on the first day of the RGFI National Rugby Championships at Jagdalpur, Chhattisgarh, Thursday.
In the girls’ category, Orissa thrashed Gujarat 46-0, Assam 38-0 and CBSE 50-0 in their respective matches. Orissa boys were also not left far behind and though they scraped past Maharashtra 14-10 in their first match, they dominated the second completely to thrash Chhattisgarh 33-7.
Kabaddi meet
Government College of Physical Education (GCPE) and hosts Kamala Nehru Women’s College entered the zonal final league of the Inter-College East Zone Kabaddi Championships here Thursday. Kamala Nehru and GCPE defeated IG and Pipili colleges in their respective matches to qualify for the summit clash.
Sepak Takraw tourney
Hosts Orissa played out a 1-1 draw with Kerala in an exciting match of the National Junior Sepak Takraw Championships which started Thursday in Bhubaneswar. The event is jointly being organised by the Sepak Takraw Federation of India and Orissa Sepak Takraw Association and the matches are being played at the KIIT Stadium and Stewart School.
