Cuttack, June 22: Ravenshaw University authorities and the district administration Wednesday measured land for the second campus of the varsity at Brajabiharipur under Athagarh tehsil amid tight security after having faced stiff resistance from residents of the area in this regard Tuesday.
The Athagarh tehsildar conducted the measurement of 126.4 acre land at Brajabiharipur in the presence of two platoons of police personnel, according to sources.
Villagers had protested during the ceremony at which Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik laid the foundation stone for the second campus of the university June 10, 2015. This had prompted officials to tighten security.
However, though one year has elapsed since the foundation stone was laid, not a single brick has been put on the project site. Meanwhile, university authorities have already spent more than Rs 3 lakh to guard the foundation stone and the plaque.
“Measurement of 126.4 acre land has been completed and work on the boundary wall will begin soon with Rs 20 crore received in the first tranche,” said the university nodal officer for the second campus, Padan Kumar Jena.
