1,325 bottles of cough syrup seized; four held

Sohela: Sohela police in Bargarh district Monday seized 1,325 bottles of cough syrup, arrested four accused on charge of smuggling and produced them in court.

The accused were identified as Laxman Kumbhar, alias Baba, 37, of Kapasila village and Ganesh Meher, 34, of Jamla village under Padampur police limits; Gauri Narayan Tripathy, 38, of Tendapadar village under Buden police limits; and Dayanidhi Parua, 32, of Ranisarda village under Tarbha police station in Subarnapur district.

Apart from 1,325 bottles of cough syrup, police seized a car and two mobile phones from their possession, Padampur SDPO Pandab Sabar said at a press conference.

According to police, the seizure was made at Chichinda Square during a patrol, when officers stopped a Maruti car (OD 17 V 6111) and found the contraband inside.

A case (276/25) was registered at Sohela police station.

Police said Laxman Kumbhar has one case registered against him at Buden police station and two at Padampur, while Gauri Narayan Tripathy has one case pending at Buden. Both had earlier been booked in different cases. Sohela IIC Harishankar Bhoi and complainant Sub-Inspector Rabinarayan Pradhan were also present at the press conference.
