Bhubaneswar: Altogether 1,499 schools in 18 districts of the state have been selected for development purpose in the fourth phase of Mo School programme of School and Mass (S&ME) education department.
The selected districts are Boudh, Bargarh, Bolangir, Cuttack, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jharsuguda, Khurda, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Kendrapada, Koraput, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Subarnapur, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.
An amount of Rs 16.64 crore has been sanctioned for the purpose, of which the state government will give Rs 11.09crore and Rs 5.54crore will be donated by the alumni of the schools, said S&ME principal secretary Pradipta Kumar Mohapatra after the first meeting of Mo School here Friday. He said that other parts of the state will be also be included in the programme soon.
It may be mentioned that Radhakrushna Government High School of Telkoi block in Keonjhar district has left behind all other schools including those in the city by raising the highest amount of Rs 2.91 lakh under the Mo School Abhiyan.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched the Mo School campaign on Children’s Day in 2017. It is an initiative to make the alumni active participants in the development journey of their schools. Under the programme, whatever is contributed in terms of funds for development of schools, the state will contribute double the amount. An initial corpus of Rs 100 crore was announced for this initiative.
